II. Scholarship Program: This is the first year of our “Beyond Sinkunia” scholarship program. Two annual scholarships are awarded based on the national BECE (Basic Education Certificate Examination) scores and recommendations from village elders, teachers, and the Paramount Chief. With your financial assistance, we are currently assisting two students who are now studying in Freetown, the nation’s capitol. We plan to make annual awards to the highest achieving male student and the highest achieving female student. Awards are for $1,000 per year for each student. This scholarship helps pay tuition and other living expenses for the students living away from home. We plan to award these scholarships annually while maintaining ongoing financial assistance to previous recipients until they complete this level of education. A special scholarship fund account has been set up with Mr. David Cudo of Corvallis, a Registered Securities Principal with Raymond James Financial Services, Inc., with over twenty years of financial management experience. Mr. Cudo has generously volunteered his time and talents to Schools of Sinkunia. To date, three named scholarships have been funded. This year’s recipients were awarded the Jean and Stan Adams scholarship and the Maryanne and Warren Staton scholarship. Next year’s first recipient will receive the Mrs. Paula Schudel scholarship. If you are interested in having a scholarship in your name, a loved one or your organization, please contact us. You can donate to specific scholarship accounts or ask to have your donations directed to the general scholarship fund.
